Dr. Steven Swengel is a board-certified dermatologist with over thirty years of experience in dermatology. He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. His dermatology residency and Mohs training was the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. During his education, he was elected to both Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega honor societies. He is board-certified in dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology as well as a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.

From 1980 to 2010, he practiced clinical dermatology and Mohs surgery with The Permanente Medical Group, Inc. and was Chief of the Department at Santa Teresa for 23 of those years.

He established the Mohs Surgery Unit at San Jose Kaiser in 1980 and was its medical director and general supervisor. The Mohs Unit and laboratory completed 3,000 cases and over 12,000 microscopy procedures per year under his supervision.

Dr. Swengel is the CEO and Medical Director for Refined Dermatology in Los Gatos, CA. Refined Dermatology offers personalized cosmetic dermatology, comprehensive dermatology, and Mohs surgery.

Dr. Swengel is the CEO and Medical Director for Refined Dermatology located at 800 Pollard Road, Bldg A in Los Gatos, CA. This corporation offers comprehensive dermatology, Mohs surgery and cosmetic dermatology services in the same center and under the supervision of Dr. Swengel. His office over the first two years has expanded into all 8000 square feet of space. Technology offered includes: CoolSculpting®; Vanquish® RF; Ultherapy®; Sciton: BBL™, Profractional, Halo and and erbium resurfacing; Excel V™, Excel HR™ and QX-MAX as well as being selected as a luminary site for Kybella™ treatments. He has 2 estheticians, 2 NPs, and a staff of 14 for support and practice management.

Prior to this new venture, he practiced clinical dermatology and Mohs surgery with the Permanente Medical Group, Inc. for the past 32 years and has been Chief of the Department of Dermatology at Santa Teresa for the first 23 of those years. He established the Mohs Surgery Unit at San Jose Kaiser in 1980 and has been the medical director and general supervisor of the Mohs Unit at that facility for the past 32 years. The Mohs Unit and laboratory had 4 full time Mohs Surgeons and 3 full time histotechs and performed close to 3000 cases and over 12,000 microscopy procedures a year under his supervision.
