What is Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® is prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used for the reduction and softening of wrinkles. At Refined Dermatology in Los Gatos, we call this a Wow treatment because it is quick, virtually painless, and produces “Wow” results.
Botox® is an Allergan product that has become a household name for all variants of onobotulinum toxin A.

Botox® Cosmetic Treats
Botox® is FDA approved for frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines around the side of the eyes.
At Refined Dermatology, we frequently use it to treat frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead wrinkles, and lines around the eyes (Crow’s Feet). It may also be used to treat lines around the mouth and those on the neck.
How Botox® Cosmetic Works
A few tiny injections are administered to the skin, which calm the muscles and thus, allows for a smoother, more relaxed appearance. The effect may take three to five days to appear.
Botox® is able to improve frown lines and crow’s feet lines by injecting the underlying muscles to slow their activity. Thus, the repeated muscle contractions that lead to wrinkles will be slowed, leaving these lines smoothed out.

Why is Botox® so much cheaper in some offices an in offers on the Internet?
The cost of the FDA approved product which is legally dispensed in the US is getting close to $5.50/unit cost to the office supplying the product. When you see Botox® offered at $6/7 per unit, you do the math. This is either a “loss leader” to bring in business at the office cost, or it is not the real Botox®. Most likely, it is the latter. Remember, you get what you pay for.
