What is Micro-Needling?

Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is a new aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars, and the improvement of the skin’s texture, tone, and color.

The Eclipse MicroPen™ is used to create controlled micro-injuries to your skin in order to aid in the production of collagen and elastin.

Your skin’s repair process results in a thicker epidermis with a softer appearance of wrinkles. MicroPen™ Elite also creates micro-channels that allows your creams, topical gels, and serums to be absorbed more effectively.

What can I expect from Micro-Needling?

You can expect a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, improved skin tone and texture and softer, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging.

MicroPen™ Elite can improve the appearance of hyper-pigmentation as well as uneven skin tone, acne scars and stretch marks.

What areas of the body can I treat with Micro-Needling?

You can treat all parts of the body: face, neck, decollete, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back.

How is the Micro-Needling procedure done?

A thin layer of topical gel is applied to your skin. Your Refined Dermatology skin care specialist will take a sterile cartridge containing 12 micro-needles and attach it to the Eclipse MicroPen∑ Elite. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the treatment area has been covered.

What does Micro-Needling feel like?

The feeling is similar to sandpaper being moved across your skin. While some areas are more sensitive to others, the speed of the reciprocating tip makes the treatment more comfortable.

How long does the Micro-Needling procedure take?

The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.

What is the Micro-Needling Downtime?

Right after your treatment, you will notice a bright redness to the skin. On average, patients are red 2-4 days. Some patients completely heal in 24 hours.

The total healing depends on the pen position used and the number of overlapping passes your Refined Dermatology skin specialist performs.

When will I see results from Micro-Needling?

You will notice an immediate “glow” to your skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.

How many Micro-Needling treatments will I need?

Some patients only require a single treatment once a year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.

If you have deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars, it is recommended that your receive 6-8 sessions at 6-week intervals.
